Our First Born in First Grade

First Jackson, and now Ethan. My babies are growing up and soon they'll leave me for college and families of their own. Sob!! Okay, I'm being a wee-bit dramatic, but I can't believe how big my boys are getting.

Last week, Ethan became a first grader. FIRST GRADE! He was so excited to start (and so embarrassed that I was taking his picture...hence, why I only have one picture). He's so smart and fun and curious about everything. I hope his love for learning continues forever. He is at a new elementary school this year since our new house is in a different zone. This elementary school is huge (10 first grade classes), but he's adjusting fine and already knew two kids in his class. I think first grade is going to be a great year!

Love you Baby Boy. :(

Preschool!?!?!?

It's hard to believe it, but our baby started PRESCHOOL this week. Real-ride-the-bus-to-school preschool! Everyday from 8am-1pm. Preschool. Oh, and he LOVES it, and so do we! Thanks to Andy's military status, we were able to qualify for FREE preschool at Head Start. I hold Head Start on a pedestal since I worked for them briefly in Tulsa and in Maine. It is such a great program, and I'm so glad that our family is a part of it!

The mandatory "first day of school" picture. He was SO ready to get inside.

He found his name and put his frog on the lily pad.

Now a "first day of school picture" inside. Please stop taking pictures Mom and let me go play!

Enjoying breakfast on his first day. Notice that his Buzz Lightyear backpack didn't come off for breakfast.

And not to leave anyone out: my very tan and muscular, soon-to-be-first-grader wearing a helmet made of bubbles.

Getting Our Kicks on Route 66

Sorry for being delinquent on the blog. The boys are in Michigan with their grandparents and great grandparents so you'd think I'd have plenty of time to update the blog. Wrong. On August 8th, I started my new career (not job...CAREER) as a probation and parole officer for the State of Oklahoma! It is my dream job that I had my sights set on since I graduated from college. This job is the reason why I got my master's degree. And now that Ethan is starting first grade in two weeks, and Jackson is starting preschool next week, there is no better time for Mommy to start and stay at this job (sorry USMC, no more moving for us).

Anyways...prior to the new job and the trip to Michigan, my BEST friend, Callie, traveled to Broken Arrow to spend some time with us. We took her on a mini-Route 66 road trip. We saw two of the cheesy road side attractions and had so much fun!

First stop: The Blue Whale of Catoosa, OK.
(I guess Ethan needed to find a tree right about now).

This giant blue whale was built in the 1970's. It used to be a fun swim hole for families traveling on Route 66, but the water is no longer for swimming. Too bad, it was HOT that day.

The Goldhahns!

Love you Callie!

After the Blue Whale, we drove to this McDonald's. It was once the largest McDonald's in the world (now it's the 3rd). It also is built over the highway so we were able to eat lunch with semis driving under us. Very cool for two little boys and a great road trip with my best friend!
